*FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE*
March 19, 2009
The Pima County Sheriff’s Department is proud to announce the implementation of memorial signs for all of our Department members killed in the line of duty. The signs, which were donated by Pima County Department of Transportation, will be placed at ten different sites throughout Pima County to mark the locations where our deputies and corrections officer lost their lives. These signs are meant as a reminder to everyone of the sacrifices law enforcement officers make on a daily basis.
To date, the Sheriff’s Department has posted two memorial signs. Deputy Timothy Graham is being honored at Ajo Way and Kinney Road. The second sign honors Deputy Ernest Calvillo at Sandario Road and Picture Rocks Road. We are currently working with other agencies to place the remaining memorial signs.
We would also like to take this opportunity to remind everyone that the 2nd Annual Pima County Regional Law Enforcement Memorial Service is scheduled for May 7, 2009, at 9:00 a.m. at the Tucson Convention Center Grandballroom. Thirty-three federal, state, and local agencies will gather together to honor forth-one officers killed in the line of duty since the 1800’s.
