Overview
The Pima County Sheriff’s Department Special Response Team (SRT) is a versatile unit within the Special Operations Section within the Support Operations Division.
The mission of the SRT is to target and impact
necessary areas and offenders within Pima County;
in conjunction with proactive approaches to crime
interdiction and patrol district support in order to
promote quality of life within the community.
The SRT uses crime analysis and investigative procedure in order to determine deployment strategies. During deployments SRT uses zero tolerance approaches while enforcing all traffic and criminal law. Strategies vary from patrol car deployment, bike patrol, and unmarked vehicle and plainclothes use.
The SRT also provides patrol district support in order to maintain community partnerships and service; assisting with calls for service, providing assistance to patrol deputies, task forces, special operations/projects, departmental functions, CID support, and instruction.
SRT is comprised of six deputies and a supervisor and operates on a late swing shift schedule. SRT deputies are highly motivated and maintain a high level of working knowledge regarding traffic and criminal law. This includes search and seizure law, tactical applications to crimes in progress, and basic/initial investigative procedure.
