*FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE*
October 29, 2008
On October 28, 2008, at approximately 2:30pm, deputies from the Foothills District responded to an unknown problem in the 7700 block of North Soledad Avenue. Upon arrival, deputies made contact with a female (mother), who advised she had left her three-month-old daughter inside her tan 2005 Kia Sedona while she went inside her residence for a minute. When she returned outside, the vehicle along with her child was gone. Deputies immediately set up quadrants and closed surface streets. A statewide Amber Alert was activated; I-10 and I-19 were monitored for the stolen vehicle.
At 3:35pm the vehicle was found abandoned in an alley in the 4100 block of West Barque Drive. The child was unharmed in the backseat. She was taken to a local hospital for evaluation before being reunited with her mother.
Physical evidence led deputies and detectives to the 4100 block of West Barque Drive where two suspects were located inside a residence. A search warrant was served and evidence connecting the two suspects to the crime was located. The two suspects, identified as Jodie Leah Spencer (DOB 04/09/75) and Jason Daryl Fries (DOB 07/08/74), were eventually arrested and booked into the Pima County Adult Detention Center on one count each of Kidnapping, Child Abuse, and Auto Theft.
