*FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE*

November 19, 2008

The Pima County Sheriff’s Department has launched On-Line Reporting to the public.  Citizens now have the ability to file certain reports on-line by accessing the Pima County Sheriff’s Department website at www.pimasheriff.org  and selecting the on-line reporting link.

Initially, on-line reporting will be limited to minor incidents with no suspect information and a value of under $5,000.  We ask that citizens not file an on-line report if they have suspect information or the case involves any type of threat.  In those circumstances, we ask that the citizen call 9-1-1.

The following incidents are available, with some restrictions, for on-line reporting:

    Lost Property                          Vandalism
Harassing Phone Calls            Hit and Run
    Thefts/Larceny

In addition, citizens will be allowed to file a supplement on-line report to an original report if it falls into one of the above listed categories.

Citizens may also file a burglary supplement, including the Citizen Mail-in Form (stolen property listing), to an already reported burglary.

Citizens filing an on-line report will receive a free email copy of their completed report, once approved by the Department, with an assigned case number.  The citizen may then print out the report for their use.

We anticipate numerous benefits from the use of the on-line reporting system.  Citizens benefit from this service by having an additional reporting choice that allows them to report incidents at their convenience and quick, free access to the report they filed.  The Department benefits by reducing the time deputies spend taking minor incident reports.  It will also reduce incoming calls to Communications, requests for copies of reports, and transcription time.

In keeping to our commitment to customer service, citizens will always have the choice of speaking directly to a deputy by contacting 9-1-1 and requesting a deputy respond in person or by telephone contact.

The Pima County Sheriff’s Department is committed to using technology to increase efficiency and improve service to the community we serve; we hope that the public takes advantage of this valuable service.
